Learn about our history

Papamoa Football Club started in 1995, and became an Incorporated Society in 1997.  The club's primary focus is to foster, encourage,  and promote football activities within the Papamoa area. It originally started at Simpson Reserve and then in 1996 moved to one of the front fields at GSR. The other field was held by Rugby. In the early years there was much angst over field space with rugby. This is not the case now.

The club has grown strongly over the past 25 years, along with the population of Papamoa, and in the 2023 year had over 800 playing members which would put us in 2nd in terms of size in the Bay of Plenty also noting that circa 55 players moved to FC Tauranga Moana for season 2023.  Papamoa Football Club is one of the fastest growing clubs in New Zealand, and the largest code by membership numbers based at Gordon Spratt Reserve. Over recent years and with substantial growth the club has become successful across a number of grades. Our club is also very proud to have had NZ representatives  Tommy Smith, Olivia Chance and Rebekah Stott play for our clubs as Juniors.

Our club was founded by Mr Alan Bright and Iain Cargill

Gordon Spratt Reserve-is named after a then TCC commissioner Gordon Spratt. The entry to GSR is from Alice Lane. Alice is the name of the farmer who gifted the farm land (Johnson) to the council.
